(Hyattsville, MD) most dominating performance in its five year run of Washington Catholic Athletic Conference titles, but it end just like the four prior ones...with a win.

DeMatha beat Good Counsel 12-7 on Sunday to capture its fifth straight crown and 15th in head coach Bill McGregor's 26 years as the main guy.

The Stags won it with a solid defense that limited Good Counsel to 132 yards of total offense. The championship comes just two weeks after Good Counsel came from behind to beat the Stags 28-24.

To read more about the Stags' win, click here.

D.C. Players Very Public About Not Going Private

DeMatha will be looking going for a three-peat this year. The Stags have won two straight Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championships, but head coach Bill McGregor, who has a lifetime record of 227-32-3, will have his work cut out for him. He'll have to replace nine offensive starters, which includes all five offensive linemen.

Meanwhile, more and more D.C. athletes are staying in the public school system, rather than transferring to area private schools. For more on that trend, click on our headline "D.C. Players Very Public About Not Going Private" for a story in the Washington Post.

<link rel='related' href='http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/08/14/AR2006081401007.html' title='D.C.
